Those are the two schools we could confirm are based in Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe itself. Booking sites list instructors who cover the resort from neighbouring villages as well; if you meet a third school name, check it gives a Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe address before you book.

Group or private: what actually differs

Group courses here are sold as a week rather than by the hour. The ESF runs five or six sessions, Sunday to Friday, two hours a day on most of its options, meeting at either the village or Mont Rond. Private lessons are priced per instructor rather than per person, so two or three people sharing one is usually cheaper than the same people each taking a group course — and it is the only option ESI Snow Diam's prices publicly.

Extra people are cheap on a private lesson but not free: the ESF adds €8 per additional person per lesson to its multi-session packages, and ESI adds €10 an hour. ESI's high season is 20 December 2026 to 5 January 2027 and 1 February to 15 March 2027; its lower rates apply 6–31 January and 16 March to 15 April 2027, and only in the Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe sector.

Ages and levels catered for

The ESF splits its teaching into four age bands. Little Ones covers ages three to five: Club Piou-Piou from age three, Ourson for four- and five-year-olds who have never skied, and Flocon & Stars for those who have passed Ourson. Children covers six to twelve, running from Flocon up through the Star grades to Team Stars, with a competition course for children who have the Bronze Flèche and Team Powder or Timer groups from Gold Star. Teens are taught from age thirteen, and adults have a separate beginners' course as well as graded group classes. Snowboard lessons start at age eight. During the February school holidays the ESF also runs mini-groups capped at six children.

ESI Snow Diam's lists alpine skiing, snowboard, snowshoeing, slalom, children's group sessions and handiski. It does not publish age bands, so ask when you call.

Where lessons meet, and how that sits with the lifts

The ESF has two meeting points: the village at 1150 m and Mont Rond at 1350 m. Its course listings name one or the other, so check which applies to the class you are booking rather than assuming the village. Both of its snow gardens sit at the foot of the slopes, with two magic carpets, two rope lifts and a heated chalet for breaks. Its own wording for both is “at the base of the slopes”.

One consequence of the village sitting at 1150 m: the ESF states that if snow cover there is not sufficient, classes are moved up to Mont Rond at 1350 m. The ski area around it runs up to 2069 m at Plan des Fours, its highest point, so the village is the lowest ground in the Espace Diamant — if you are booking early or late in the season, allow for the chance of meeting at Mont Rond rather than in the village.

Lift passes are separate from lessons. The ESF's own guidance is that a child in Flocon lessons needs only the Beginner pass, but from the 1ère Étoile upwards the Val d'Arly pass is required — which also opens the rest of the Espace Diamant, 192 km of pistes across six linked villages including Les Saisies, Crest-Voland, Praz-sur-Arly and Flumet. How far ahead to book

The ESF takes bookings on its own site and says reservation is recommended for the February school holidays, and strongly recommended for children's courses in those weeks — which is also when its capped mini-groups run. Outside the holiday weeks the ESF's under-four-participants clause is the thing to watch instead: the risk is not that a course sells out, but that too few people sign up for it to run in the advertised form.
