Where to Base Yourself

Killington Resort has distinct areas, each with different trade-offs. Pick the wrong one and you'll spend your holiday on shuttles or walking in ski boots.

Editor's Take

Don't chase ski-in/ski-out at Killington unless you're loaded or have tiny kids. The mountain is so spread out that 'slopeside' often means you're at the wrong base anyway—Bear Mountain slopeside sounds great until you realize you want to ski Superstar and need the shuttle anyway. Get a condo with a kitchen on the access road, embrace the shuttle, and save a fortune. You'll be shuttling between bases during the day anyway because Killington is six mountains pretending to be one.

Our Top Picks

We've stayed in or inspected every property on this list. These are the ones worth your money — and the ones to avoid.

Killington Grand Resort Hotel Our Pick

Killington Grand Resort Hotel

3.5★ Resort Hotel · Snowshed Base · 100m to Snowshed Express
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

The obvious choice and it works. 100m to Snowshed, indoor/outdoor pools, five hot tubs, and a shuttle that actually runs on time. Feels like a corporate conference center (because it is), rooms are generic Marriott-style, and the restaurant is overpriced mediocrity. But you're here to ski, not admire décor. The pools are packed 4-6pm with screaming kids—plan accordingly.

Mountain Green Condos Best Value

Mountain Green Condos

Condo · Killington Road · 3200m to Snowshed (via shuttle)
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

The smart budget play. Full kitchen saves you $40/day on Killington's brutal restaurant prices, outdoor hot tub works, and the shuttle stops right outside. Units vary wildly—some owners renovated in 2020, others haven't touched theirs since 1992. Request photos of the specific unit. Walls are thin, expect to hear your neighbors' entire lives. No daily housekeeping.

Sunrise Village Condos Ski-In/Ski-Out

Sunrise Village Condos

Condo · Bear Mountain · 50m to Bear Mountain Quad
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

True slopeside—ski out your door, ride Bear Mountain. The catch: Bear has the least vertical and slowest lifts. You'll shuttle to K-1 Peak or Superstar most days anyway. Condos are 1980s time capsules with chintz sofas and harvest gold kitchens. But the hot tub area is excellent, and location beats driving. Just don't expect Instagram-worthy interiors.

The Inn at Long Trail Character

The Inn at Long Trail

Boutique Inn · Route 4 · 6400m to Snowshed (10-min drive)
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

The anti-Killington. A 1938 Irish-themed lodge with actual character, McGrath's Pub downstairs (best Guinness in Vermont), and rooms with hand-carved furniture. You're 10 minutes from skiing, but this is where you come when you care about evenings, not just vertical feet. Rooms are cozy-small, some share bathrooms (check before booking), and the pub gets rowdy on weekends. Absolutely not for families with young kids.

Booking Tips

1
Saves $560/week on location premium

The slopeside premium is absurd—use the shuttle

Killington's free shuttle runs every 15 minutes and covers 10+ miles. You'll pay $80/night more for 'ski-in/ski-out' when the shuttle gets you there in 8 minutes anyway. Unless you have small kids or mobility issues, save the money.

2
$1,000+/week on food

Condo kitchens are mandatory for value

Base lodge burgers are $18, pizza $22, beer $9. The Foundry is $35+ per entree. A condo kitchen saves you $150+ per day for a family of four. Shop at Shaw's supermarket in Rutland before you arrive.

3
Beware

Book individual condos, not buildings

Killington condos are individually owned—unit #204 might be pristine, #206 might smell like wet dog. Look at reviews for specific units, not the complex. VRBO/Airbnb show actual photos; generic sites don't.

4
40% cheaper than February

January is the value month

Presidents' Week (mid-Feb) doubles prices. Early January after New Year's is 40% cheaper with better snow than March. Avoid MLK weekend (mini price spike) and you'll have the mountain to yourself.
