Where to Base Yourself

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has distinct areas, each with different trade-offs. Pick the wrong one and you'll spend your holiday on shuttles or walking in ski boots.

Editor's Take

People stay in Jackson town thinking 'we want the authentic Wyoming experience, not some resort village!' This is a mistake for 90% of ski trips. Here's what happens: you wake up in Jackson, drive 25 minutes to Teton Village (parking $40/day or hope for street spots), ski until 4pm, drive back, now you're too tired to enjoy Jackson's bars anyway. You've added an hour of driving per day to save... nothing, because Jackson hotels aren't cheaper than Teton Village. The exceptions: you're skiing 2-3 days max and want to explore Jackson/Grand Teton National Park the other days. Or you're on a tight budget and staying at the hostel. Otherwise, stay at Teton Village. Jackson Hole is famously challenging terrain — you'll be exhausted after skiing. Ski-in/ski-out means hot tub at 4:15pm, not sitting in traffic.

Hotel Terra Jackson Hole Our Pick

Hotel Terra Jackson Hole

4★ Hotel · Teton Village · 80m to Bridger Gondola
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

Best overall choice for Jackson Hole. True ski-in/ski-out at Teton Village, 90 seconds from Bridger Gondola. Rooftop hot tubs with Teton views are spectacular. Il Villaggio Osteria restaurant is excellent. Rooms are modern and spacious. The only catch: Teton Village is 12 miles from Jackson town, so you're committed to the base village scene or driving/shuttling for nightlife. But if skiing is why you're here, this is where you stay.

The Lexington at Jackson Hole Best Value

The Lexington at Jackson Hole

Condo Hotel · Teton Village · 120m to Bridger Gondola
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

Ski-in/ski-out condos with full kitchens, 2 minutes from Bridger Gondola. Heated pool and hot tubs are solid. The catch: these are individually owned units, so quality varies wildly. Read recent reviews for your specific unit. Some are renovated and gorgeous, others have 1990s furniture and questionable carpet. But at $240/night for ski-in/ski-out Jackson Hole, the value is undeniable if you get a good unit.

Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole Splurge

Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole

5★ Hotel · Teton Village · 50m to Bridger Gondola
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

The Four Seasons in Teton Village is as good as Four Seasons gets. Literally ski-in/ski-out, 50 meters from Bridger Gondola. The Spa is world-class. Handle restaurant has a Michelin star. Cowboy-luxury décor done right. But $1,200+/night in peak weeks? For a ski hotel? The value proposition is thin unless money genuinely doesn't matter. It's spectacular, but Jackson Hole is about steep skiing, not luxury spa treatments.

Elk Country Inn Budget Pick

Elk Country Inn

2★ Motel · Jackson Town · 0m to START bus to resort
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

Budget motel in Jackson town, walking distance to Town Square bars and restaurants. Free hot breakfast, clean rooms, mountain views from some units. The catch: you're 12 miles from the resort, so you need a car or the START bus ($3 each way, runs hourly). Perfect for people who want Jackson's nightlife and don't mind the commute, or groups who'll cook and only ski 3-4 days. Otherwise the shuttle dependency gets old fast.

Booking Tips

1
Saves Choose your priority

Teton Village vs Jackson Town

Teton Village is ski-in/ski-out but 12 miles from Jackson's bars/restaurants. Jackson town has better nightlife but you commute to skiing. Most serious skiers stay Teton Village. Town is for après-first trips.

2
Minimal savings

START Bus is $3 each way

The public bus between Jackson and Teton Village runs hourly 6am-11pm, $3 each way. If you stay in town, that's $84/week vs $40/day Teton Village parking. Only saves money if you avoid valet.

3
Beware

March is the value month

March has excellent snow, smaller crowds, and 20–30% lower prices than February. We tracked Hotel Terra: $650/night Presidents' Day vs $450 in mid-March. Same skiing, way cheaper.

4
$5,000+ groups

Condos for groups save huge

For 6 people: Lexington 3-bed condo $450/night vs hotel rooms $380×3 = $1,140/night. That's $4,830 saved per week. Cook 4 dinners (Jackson dining is $$$) and save another $600.
