Where to Base Yourself

Davos-Klosters has distinct areas, each with different trade-offs. Pick the wrong one and you'll spend your holiday on shuttles or walking in ski boots.

Editor's Take

Staying in Klosters Dorf expecting nightlife. Klosters is beautiful and upscale, but it's a quiet village with one main street and a handful of restaurants. By 9pm, it's dead. If you want bars, clubs, and variety, stay in Davos Platz and ski over to Klosters. If you value peace and Alpine charm over nightlife, Klosters is perfect. Just don't book it expecting both.

Hotel Walserhof Klosters Ultimate Luxury

Hotel Walserhof Klosters

5★ Hotel · Klosters Dorf · 300m to Gotschna gondola
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

The finest hotel in the Davos-Klosters area. Gorgeous design (modern Alpine done right), Michelin-starred restaurant, exceptional spa, and service that feels personal not corporate. You're in Klosters Dorf (the charming village), 5 mins' walk to Gotschna gondola. The catch: at CHF 550+ per night, rooms aren't huge (30m²), and Klosters Dorf is quiet — one main street, a handful of restaurants. If you want nightlife, you need to bus to Davos Platz (15 mins). But for quality, this is it.

Steigenberger Grandhotel Belvédère Our Pick

Steigenberger Grandhotel Belvédère

4★ Hotel · Davos Platz · 200m to Parsenn funicular
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

Grand old hotel in the heart of Davos Platz. Historic building (opened 1875), renovated in 2016, excellent spa, and you're 3 mins' walk from Parsenn funicular and the main shopping street. The problem: it's a *big* hotel (120 rooms) so it feels corporate at times. The breakfast buffet is chaotic. And rooms vary — some are gorgeous after renovation, others are still dated. Insist on a renovated room or you'll be disappointed for the price. But location and facilities are solid.

Hotel Parsenn Best Value

Hotel Parsenn

3★ Hotel · Davos Dorf · 250m to Parsenn funicular
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

Solid mid-range hotel in Davos Dorf. Family-run, clean, small spa (sauna/steam room), half-board available. You're 5 mins' walk to Parsenn funicular and in the quieter end of Davos. The hotel is dated (1980s wood and chintz) but well-maintained. WiFi is slow. The restaurant does traditional Swiss food (fondue, raclette) which is decent but repetitive. For the price in Switzerland, it's fair. Just don't expect modern design or luxury.

Hotel Edelweiss Budget Pick

Hotel Edelweiss

2★ Hotel · Davos Platz · 400m to Parsenn funicular
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

The budget option in Davos Platz. Simple, clean, 7-minute walk to Parsenn funicular. It's a no-frills hotel — rooms are tiny (12m²), bathrooms are dated, furniture is basic. No elevator, no spa, WiFi is patchy. But it's £60-100/night in Switzerland (cheap), breakfast is included (basic but adequate), and you're central. The owners are friendly but speak limited English. If you're here to ski and don't care about comfort, it works.

Booking Tips

1
Saves Klosters = quiet charm, Davos = variety

Klosters vs Davos — pick based on vibe preference

Klosters is a charming village, quiet, upscale (Prince Charles skis here). Davos is a town — bigger, more nightlife, more functional. Same ski area, same lift pass. Klosters is 20% more expensive but prettier. Davos has more options and energy.

2
Choose based on lifestyle

Davos Platz vs Davos Dorf

Platz is the commercial centre (shops, restaurants, train station). Dorf is quieter and 2km up the valley. Both have Parsenn access. If you want nightlife, pick Platz. If you want peace, pick Dorf.

3
Beware

Half-board isn't as common here as Austria/Italy

Swiss hotels often don't include dinner. And eating out in Davos/Klosters is CHF 40-60pp. Budget for restaurants or book half-board where available. Self-catering saves the most.

4
10-15% or free ski pass

Book 'ski & stay' packages for best value

Many hotels offer packages with free or discounted lift passes for 7-night stays. Check hotel websites directly — booking sites don't show these deals.
