Where to Base Yourself

Les Menuires has distinct areas, each with different trade-offs. Pick the wrong one and you'll spend your holiday on shuttles or walking in ski boots.

Editor's Take

Staying in Reberty or the satellite villages to 'get away from it all'. There's nothing to get away *from* — Les Menuires is already quiet and functional. The satellites are just isolated with no amenities. You'll ski down to La Croisette every evening anyway for food/bars, then face a gondola ride or uphill walk home. Stay in La Croisette, accept the concrete aesthetic, and enjoy having the Three Valleys on your doorstep for half the price of Courchevel.

Our Top Picks

We've stayed in or inspected every property on this list. These are the ones worth your money — and the ones to avoid.

Résidence Koh-I Nor Our Pick

Résidence Koh-I Nor

4★ Residence · Val Thorens Boundary · 0m to Pointe de la Masse cable car
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

The best value ski-in/ski-out in the Three Valleys. Proper 4★ standard, excellent pool/spa, and apartments are modern and well-equipped. You're on the upper edge of Les Menuires, so ski access to Val Thorens is easier than from the main resort. The negatives: it's isolated — you're 10 mins walk from any shops or restaurants (and it's uphill on the way back). The spa gets rammed at 5pm. And some apartments face the car park with zero view. Book a mountain-view unit or you'll stare at Renaults.

Hôtel Les Menuires Best Value

Hôtel Les Menuires

3★ Hotel · La Croisette · 100m to Bruyères gondola
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

Cheap, central, functional. You're in La Croisette (the main hub), 2 minutes from Bruyères gondola, surrounded by shops and restaurants. The hotel is aggressively basic — rooms are tiny (12m²), decor is dated, and the 'buffet breakfast' is laughable (stale croissants and instant coffee). No spa, no pool, WiFi barely works. But for £65/night in peak season with lifts on your doorstep, you're not here for luxury. You're here to ski and save money.

Résidence L'Hélios Premium Choice

Résidence L'Hélios

4★ Residence · Reberty · 0m to Reberty gondola
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

The fanciest residence in Les Menuires. Ski-in/ski-out from Reberty, gorgeous spa (genuinely one of the best in the Three Valleys), apartments are spacious and well-designed. The problems: you're in Reberty, which is a soulless high-altitude satellite at 2,000m. There's one restaurant, one shop, and nothing else. You need to ski/gondola down to La Croisette for any nightlife. And the price is insane for Les Menuires — you're paying Val d'Isère money in a budget resort.

Résidence Les Bruyères Budget Pick

Résidence Les Bruyères

Apartment · Les Bruyères · 50m to Bruyères gondola
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

Rock-bottom budget ski-in accommodation. You're literally at the gondola base, apartments have kitchens, and it's cheap as chips. The reality: these are the ugliest buildings in Les Menuires (and that's saying something). Concrete bunkers from 1973, no elevators (haul your gear up stairs), furniture from charity shops, and the heating barely works. Bring a sleeping bag. But if you're 22, don't care about comfort, and want to spend all day skiing the Three Valleys for £300/week all-in, this is it.

Booking Tips

1
Saves 40% vs Courchevel/Méribel

Les Menuires is the budget gateway to the Three Valleys

Same lift pass as Courchevel and Méribel, 40% cheaper accommodation. Don't waste money on 'luxury' here — book a basic apartment, self-cater, and spend your days skiing Courchevel's slopes while paying Les Menuires prices.

2
Avoid isolation premium of taxis

La Croisette is the only area with life

Reberty, Bruyères, and Preyerand are isolated satellite zones. Ski access is good but there's nothing there. If you want restaurants, bars, or a pulse, stay in La Croisette even if it costs £15/night more.

3
Beware

Les Menuires is hideous — own it

Don't come here expecting pretty. It's a concrete purpose-built resort from the 1970s. But the skiing is phenomenal (600km Three Valleys), snow is reliable, and prices are low. Function over form.

4
15-20% booking direct

Book apartments direct from agencies

Booking.com adds 20% commission. Local agencies (Menuires Réservations, etc) have the same apartments cheaper. Check both before booking.
