Where to Base Yourself

Les Deux Alpes has distinct areas, each with different trade-offs. Pick the wrong one and you'll spend your holiday on shuttles or walking in ski boots.

Editor's Take

Trying to find 'charming' accommodation in Les Deux Alpes. With one exception (Chalet Mounier), it doesn't exist. The resort is a purpose-built concrete sprawl from the 1970s. You're here for reliable glacier skiing, cheap prices, and good intermediate terrain — not for Instagram-worthy chalets. Book a functional apartment near Jandri Express, embrace the budget vibe, and spend your money on skiing. If you need charm, you're in the wrong resort.

Hôtel Beaulieu Our Pick

Hôtel Beaulieu

4★ Hotel · Centre Station · 120m to Jandri Express gondola
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

The best hotel in Deux Alpes, which is damning with faint praise. Two minutes to Jandri Express, decent spa, good restaurant. But: the decor is aggressively dated (lots of brown velour), the gym is a joke (two machines in a cupboard), and soundproofing is poor. You'll hear drunk Brits stumbling home from Smokey Joe's at 3am. Staff are friendly but clearly understaffed in peak weeks. For Deux Alpes though, this is as good as it gets.

Hôtel Les Mélèzes Best Value

Hôtel Les Mélèzes

3★ Hotel · Centre Station · 200m to Jandri Express gondola
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

Solid budget choice with zero pretensions. Clean, warm, 3-minute walk to Jandri Express. The place looks like it hasn't been redecorated since 1988 — pine everything, floral curtains, ancient carpets. WiFi is painfully slow. Breakfast is basic (baguette, jam, coffee). But the owners (Bernadette and Jean-Claude) are genuinely lovely and give great advice on where to ski each day. No spa, no frills, just honest cheap accommodation.

Chalet Mounier Most Charm

Chalet Mounier

4★ Hotel · Village Level · 180m to Vallée Blanche chairlift
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

The *only* hotel in Deux Alpes with genuine Alpine character. Proper old chalet with beams, stone fireplace, thoughtful design. Excellent restaurant (the beef tartare is spectacular). The catch: you're down at 1,650m (main resort is at 1,800m), so you need to take a chairlift up every morning, and in warm spells the snow at this level can be slushy by afternoon. Also pricey for Deux Alpes — you can get similar quality in fancier resorts for the same money.

Résidence Le Cairn Budget Pick

Résidence Le Cairn

Apartment · Centre Station · 150m to Jandri Express gondola
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

Typical French ski apartment block — concrete, functional, charmless. But: you're 2 minutes from Jandri Express and Sherpa supermarket, kitchens are properly equipped, and apartments are surprisingly spacious. The problems are predictable: paper-thin walls (you'll hear your neighbours' entire lives), heating is coin-operated (expensive), and the building looks like a Soviet housing project. But for self-catering on a budget, it works.

Booking Tips

1
Saves 50% vs premium resorts

Deux Alpes is a budget resort — lean into it

Don't waste money on 'luxury' here. Even the best hotels are dated. Go self-catering, buy groceries at Sherpa or Carrefour, and save your money for better resorts. You can do a week for half what you'd spend in Méribel.

2
Save time and hassle

Centre Station is the only sensible location

Mont de Lans (the old village 8km away) is cheaper but you'll spend £15/day on the shuttle bus and waste 40 minutes daily commuting. Pay the extra £20/night to be in Centre Station by the Jandri Express.

3
Beware

Avoid Easter week unless you're a park rat

Deux Alpes stays open until May thanks to glacier skiing. Easter is packed with snowboarders hitting the park. If you're not into that scene, it's noisy and the lower slopes are slush. Go in January instead.

4
Manage expectations

The accommodation is ugly — accept it

Deux Alpes was built in the 1960s/70s for mass-market skiing. It's all concrete apartment blocks. Don't expect Megève charm. But it's cheap, the skiing is good, and the glacier means reliable snow. Function over form.
