Where to Base Yourself

St. Anton has distinct areas, each with different trade-offs. Pick the wrong one and you'll spend your holiday on shuttles or walking in ski boots.

Editor's Take

First-timers to St Anton get seduced by St Christoph's 'high altitude, ski-in/ski-out, better snow' pitch and book up there to be 'smart'. Don't. Unless you're 60+ and in bed by 9pm, you'll regret it. St Anton's magic is the village: the Mooserwirt après madness, the Krazy Kanguruh 3am closing, the whole wild Austrian atmosphere. St Christoph is peaceful and lovely but you're missing 70% of why people go to St Anton. Stay in the village, walk 3 minutes to lifts, live the full experience.

Hotel Raffl's St Antoner Hof Our Pick

Hotel Raffl's St Antoner Hof

4★ Hotel · St Anton Village · 120m to Nassereinbahn gondola
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

The best 4-star in St Anton. Two minutes' walk to Nassereinbahn, excellent spa with multiple saunas (very Austrian), and it's family-run so service is warm. Half-board is included and actually good — proper Austrian cooking, not tourist slop. Rooms are traditional Tyrolean, which means lots of wood and floral fabrics. Won't suit minimalists. The après bar gets rowdy from 3pm — request a rear room if you value sleep.

Hotel Schwarzer Adler Best Value

Hotel Schwarzer Adler

3★ Hotel · St Anton Village · 200m to Nassereinbahn gondola
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

Old-school Austrian pension that's been taking skiers since 1885. Five-minute walk to Nasserein, half-board included, and the family who runs it are lovely. Rooms are small and dated — we're talking dark wood panels and tiny bathrooms — but spotlessly clean. The food is hearty Austrian (schnitzel, goulash, strudel) and portions are enormous. No spa, no pool, just solid value for central St Anton.

Arlberg Hospiz Hotel Splurge

Arlberg Hospiz Hotel

5★ Hotel · St Christoph · 0m to St Christoph lifts
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

The historic 5-star, built 1386 and upgraded tastefully. True ski-in/ski-out at 1,800m (better snow than St Anton village), outstanding wellness, and Hospiz Alm is one of the best mountain restaurants in Austria. The catch: you're in St Christoph, not St Anton — it's 10 minutes up the road, tiny village, limited nightlife. Come for peace and luxury, not party atmosphere. Half-board is excellent but pricey at €95pp.

Residence Tirol Budget Pick

Residence Tirol

Apartment · St Anton Village · 250m to Nassereinbahn gondola
{{#times stars}} {{/times}}

Decent self-catering in central St Anton (rare here — most accommodation is hotels). Five minutes' walk to Nasserein, full kitchens, and you'll save €40+ per day on Austria's expensive restaurants. The apartments are functional but charmless — think IKEA-basic with beige walls. No spa, no pool, no services. Just somewhere to sleep and self-cater. For groups or families on budget, it works.

Booking Tips

1
Saves €15pp/day vs eating out

Half-board is excellent value in Austria

Unlike France or Switzerland, Austrian hotel half-board is actually good and fairly priced. Eating out in St Anton costs €35+ per meal. Half-board adds €40–55pp/day for breakfast + 4-course dinner. Do the maths: it's worth it.

2
15% cheaper in St Christoph

St Christoph vs St Anton village

St Christoph (10 mins up the road) has better snow (400m higher), is quieter, and often cheaper. St Anton village has all the nightlife and atmosphere. Choose based on priorities: powder or party.

3
Beware

Book St Jakob for 30% savings

St Jakob (3km down the valley) is on the same lift pass, connected by free bus every 15 mins, and 30% cheaper. You'll miss après in St Anton, but if you're old/sensible, who cares. Skiing is identical.

4
35% cheaper

Avoid Christmas/New Year madness

St Anton Christmas/New Year is infamous: crazy expensive, insanely crowded, mandatory half-board at inflated prices. Book early January instead — 35% cheaper, better snow, far fewer queues.
